Charges laid after man brandishes gun while ordering people to leave his residence

A 48-year-old Winnipeg man is facing weapons-related charges after he allegedly brandished a handgun while directing two people to leave his property.

Police say that they were called to a home in the first 100 block of Copperwood Court around 3:15 am on News Year’s Day for the report of a man with a firearm.

Investigators learned that the suspect got into an argument with a 19-year-old female and a 23-year-old male who were celebrating the new year at the home. The homeowner allegedly brandished a handgun and racked the slide in front of the young adults while directing them to leave his home. Police say the pair left the home and reported the incident to them.

Police arrested the suspect outside his home and seized eight firearms from the property as evidence and in the interest of public safety.

The accused has been charged for his alleged involvement with Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition and three counts of Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations.

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
