Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in the 500 block of McAdam Avenue just after 8:30 pm on Sunday August 8, 2021.
When crews arrived on the scene they found a house fully involved with heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. The fire had spread to a two-and-a-half-storey home next door. Firefighters launched a defensive attack on both buildings.

Crews transitioned to an offensive attack once the fire had been partially knocked down making it safer for firefighters to enter the structures.
Two people in one of the homes were able get themselves out safely before crews arrived and were both assessed by paramedics on the scene. Neither required hospitalization. Crews searched the other home and found no one inside. Firefighters located two dogs in one of the homes. One of the dogs had died the other was reunited with its owner.
One firefighter was treated by paramedics on the scene for heat-related issues but did not require hospitalization. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
