A 48-year-old Catholic priest in Little Grand Rapids has been arrested and charged in connection to a sexual assault against and eight-year-old girl on Saturday, May 27, 2023.
According to RCMP the child had been in the church alone with the priest when he touched her in an inappropriate way. The accused then tried to prevent the victim from leaving the building. The girl was able to flee to her home.
Arul Savari has been charged for his alleged involvement with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Sexual Exploitation of a Young Person, Luring a Child, and Forcible Confinement.
Police say that since Savari’s arrest they have identified a number of potential victims and believe there may be more. Savari also attended the community of Pauingassi First Nation in his role as priest.
