Case numbers spike as province relaxes restrictions

Case numbers spike as 216 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the province today. Three more people died from COVID-19.

Those who died from the virus are identified as:

  • a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a female in her 70s from the Winnipeg health region; and
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region.

The five-day test positivity rate is 9.8 per cent provincially and 6.5 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 28,476.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • 22 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • 118 cases in the Northern health region
  • 12 cases in Prairie Mountain health region
  • 14 cases in the Southern health region
  • 50 cases in the Winnipeg health region

There are currently 3,372 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 24,307 people listed as recovered.

272 people are being treated in the hospital of which 135 are considered infectious. 40 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 26 of them still considered infectious.

798 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province. Due to a data correction, one death that had been reported earlier by public health has been removed.

1,836 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 463,084 tests completed.
