Case numbers drop slightly, three more deaths announced

133 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the province today. It was also announced that three more people have died from COVID-19.

Those who died from the virus have been identified as:

  • a male in his 60s from Northern health region;
  • a male in his 80s from the Prairie Mountain Health region, linked to the outbreak at McCreary/Alonsa Health Centre; and
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an outbreak at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home.

The five-day test positivity rate is 10 per cent provincially and 8.8 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 26,450.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • 11 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • 34 cases in the Northern health region
  • 28 cases in Prairie Mountain health region
  • 13 cases in the Southern health region
  • 47 cases in the Winnipeg health region

There are currently 3,414 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 22,295 people who have been listed as recovered.

316 are being treated in the hospital of which 162 are considered infectious. 37 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 21 of them still considered infectious.

741 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

1,566 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 440,532 tests completed.

An outbreak has been declared at Headingley Correctional Centre in Headingley.

During a media briefing Monday Dr Brent Roussin, chief provincial public health officer, noted that 538 cases are directly related to gatherings over the holidays. These cases had 2879 close contacts connected to them.
