Case numbers continue to go in the wrong direction

Case numbers continue to go in the wrong direction with 222 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province today. Three more people died from the virus.

Those who died from COVID-19 are identified as:

  • a male in his 80s from the Prairie Mountain Health region, linked to an outbreak at the McCreary/Alonsa Health Centre;
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an outbreak at the Holy Family Personal Care Home; and
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an outbreak at Concordia Place personal care home.

The five-day test positivity rate is up slightly and is currently 10.6 per cent provincially and 6.4 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 28,697.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • 20 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region
  • 116 cases in the Northern health region
  • 22 cases in Prairie Mountain health region
  • three cases in the Southern health region
  • 61 cases in the Winnipeg health region

There are currently 3,521 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 24,377 people listed as recovered.

278 people are being treated in the hospital of which 143 are considered infectious. 42 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 28 of them still considered infectious.

799 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province. Public health officials note a previously announced death has been deleted from both the total case counts and the total death counts, as they were added as a COVID-19 positive case in error.

1,956 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 465,040 tests completed.

An outbreak has been declared over at the Union Gospel Mission in Winnipeg.
