Case numbers climb in Victoria Hospital outbreak

UPDATED

More cases of COVID-19 have been linked to Victoria General Hospital (VGH) in Winnipeg after the facility first announced an outbreak on October 23, 2020.

The outbreak initially had two patients identified in the 5N and 5S family medicine units but as of Monday, October 26, those number had increased to 13 patients and 14 staff members.

On Tuesday afternoon Hospital officials said the numbers now stand at 19 patients and 19 staff.

Officials at VGH said that COVID-19 positive patients are being transferred to acute care hospitals for further treatment.

The hospital remains open but new patients will not be admitted to the 5N and 5S units. Visits are also restricted to those units.

The hospital says that clinics and procedures continue as usual.
