Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) encountered heavy smoke in a two-storey apartment complex on Carriage Road early this morning.
Firefighters arrived on scene just after 12:30 am on Monday July 22, 2019. Two people inside the suite that was on fire were quickly removed as crews knocked down the blaze. Damage was contained to the suite.
Some residents were evacuated to a waiting Winnipeg Transit bus while others were able to stay in their suites while the fire was extinguished.
One person from the suite where the fire started was taken to hospital in unstable condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
