A historic church in Carman was devastated by fire early Thursday morning, prompting a police investigation into the blaze deemed “suspicious.”
Pembina Valley RCMP responded to reports of a fire at a church on 2nd Street SW at approximately 4:15 a.m. on March 13, 2025. Upon arrival, officers found Carman Fire and Emergency Medical Services already battling the intense flames. However, the severity of the fire had already caused the church floor to collapse into the basement, preventing firefighters from entering the building.

Fortunately, no one was inside the church at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
Given the circumstances, the RCMP are treating the fire as suspicious and have launched an investigation alongside the Office of the Fire Commissioner. Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance.
Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. and who may have captured video footage to come forward.
Pembina Valley RCMP detachment can be reached at 204-745-6760.
