Carjackings on the rise with two more over the weekend

Winnipeg Police Service is investigating two carjackings that happened over the weekend.

On Saturday evening a female was seen jumping out of a moving vehicle near Grant Avenue and Wilton Street.

When officers arrived they found the victim in her 20s. She had been the victim of a carjacking. Paramedics took the woman to hospital in stable condition.

Police learned that the victim had been parked in the 1200 block of Grant Avenue the a male got into her vehicle and assaulted her.

The vehicle was located in the 900 block of Carter Street but the carjacker had fled. Police describe the suspect as a male between 23-35 years old with tanned skin. He stands 6’0″ tall with a stalky build and shaved head which was growing out and a shaved beard.

In the second carjacking police say that a male in his 30s was parked near Cumberland Avenue and Carlton Street around 7:45 pm when he was approached by a female asking for a cigarette. The female then produced a knife and a second male suspect then appeared armed with a gun.The victim was robbed of his personal property and the suspects fled in his vehicle.

Police say the vehicle was recovered in the 100 block of Garry Street.

Both suspects were between 25 -35 years old and described as white. The female had brown hair tied in a ponytail and was wearing a baseball cap and black jacket. The male had fair skin, dark eyes and multiple tattoos. He was wearing a black hat and black sweater.
