Winnipeg police say that a 33-year-old man is in custody after he attempted to steal a vehicle, was fought off, and then stole a second vehicle minutes later.
The incident began around 7: 20 am on Monday, March 13, 2023, in the 100 block of Foxwarren Drive. The accused allegedly attempted to steal a vehicle that had been left running unattended in the driveway of a home. The victim tried to stop the theft and got into a physical altercation with the accused. The suspect fled.
A few minutes later the man approached a running vehicle in an open garage. Two people were with their vehicle when the suspect threatened them with a can of bear spray. The victims fled into their home. The suspect fled in the stolen vehicle causing significant damage to the garage door which was closing at the time.
Officers located the vehicle just before 8:30 am near Artillery Street and College Avenue. Police followed the vehicle and took the suspect into custody when the vehicle stopped in a parking lot.
Danny Wawaskes Harper has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Robbery, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Weapon, Mischief Under $5,ooo / Obstruct Enjoyment and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
He was detained in custody
