A 24-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested and charged following a robbery on Keewatin Street that led to erratic driving, a collision on St. Matthews Avenue, and a foot pursuit.
On Friday, April 4, 2025, at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) were called to the sub 100 block of Keewatin Street for a report of an assault and vehicle theft.
Upon arrival, police spoke with a 25-year-old male victim who stated he had been threatened and physically assaulted by an adult male suspect. The suspect then allegedly stole the victim’s 2019 Honda Civic and fled the scene. The victim did not require medical attention.
Shortly after the initial report, the WPS received multiple calls regarding the stolen vehicle being driven erratically in the vicinity. The situation escalated when the stolen Honda Civic collided with another vehicle on St. Matthews Avenue, between Strathcona and Ashburn Streets. The collision rendered the stolen vehicle inoperable.
The suspect then abandoned the damaged vehicle and fled on foot. Officers, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, were able to track the suspect to the 1300 block of St. Matthews Avenue, where he was apprehended and taken into custody.
The suspect was transported to a hospital in stable condition to receive medical attention for injuries sustained in the collision. The occupants of the vehicle struck by the stolen Honda Civic were also taken to a hospital for medical assessment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have confirmed that the victims and the suspect were previously unknown to one another.
