On January 6, 2025, around 4:40 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report from a 37-year-old woman about a robbery carjacking incident on the 600 block of Elgin Avenue. The victim reported that her 2017 Dodge Caravan was stolen at approximately 5:00 a.m. by a 20-year-old female suspect who was armed with a machete. Both the victim and the suspect are known to each other, and fortunately, the victim was not injured during the robbery.
The next day, on January 7, 2025, at around 12:29 a.m., Central District General Patrol officers spotted the suspect driving the stolen vehicle on the 900 block of Winnipeg Avenue. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect sped away. With the assistance of the police helicopter, Air-1, the stolen vehicle was eventually located, and the suspect was apprehended in the rear lane of the 600 block of Bannatyne Avenue.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Autumn Beardy of Winnipeg, has been charged with several offenses, including Possession of a Weapon, Failure to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x2), Public Mischief, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000. Beardy has been detained in custody.
