Carjacking and Assault in Winnipeg: Suspect Arrested

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) responded to a troubling carjacking on January 22, 2025, at approximately 4:50 p.m. in the 400 block of William Avenue. A 2009 Toyota Sienna was stolen, and its 33-year-old owner was assaulted with a weapon during the incident.

Central District General Patrol officers reported that the victim had been waiting in a parking lot when a lone male suspect approached, demanded property, forcibly pulled the victim out of the vehicle, and struck him in the upper body with a weapon. The suspect then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle. The victim sustained significant but non-life-threatening injuries.

On January 23, 2025, at around 11:30 a.m., the stolen vehicle was found in the 300 block of Ross Avenue. During the investigation, a member of the Major Crimes Unit, familiar with the suspect, identified him as Mathieu Boyd, 27, of Winnipeg. It was determined that Boyd had been arrested on an unrelated matter by West District General Patrol officers shortly after the carjacking and was already in police custody.

Boyd has been charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery, Possession of a Weapon, and Failing to Comply with Condition of Release Order. He remains in custody.
