A fire broke out just after 6:00 am Wednesday morning, March 18, 2020 at the Capri Motel on Pembina Highway.
When firefighters arrived heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic service says that crews evacuated some to the motel’s occupants while others were able to get out on their own. One cat was rescued by firefighters but a second cat is not accounted for.
No injuries were reported.
The building suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.
Fire crews will be on scene for most of the morning putting out hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In November 2019, a fatal fire at the Capri claimed the life of one guest. A firefighter was also injured fighting the blaze.
On February 29, 2020, a vicious dog attack at the motel seriously injured three people. Police spent hours searching for three adult dogs and a puppy. Two of the dogs were put down by police in nearby neighbourhoods and a third was euthanized.
