On Saturday, January 4, 2020, two Manitobans will be part of a 21-member team heading to Australia to help battle wildfires that have plagued parts of that country for months.
The Canadian Integrated Forest Fire Centre based in Winnipeg received an official request from Australian officials for additional resources in the wildfire fight.
The first Canadian team went down under on December 2, 2019, with the second team of 30 heading out on December 19th.
The Canadian contingent will assist the incident management team with roles in command, aviation, planning, logistics and operations.
