Canada Post employee charged with mail theft

Winnipeg Police have arrested and charged a 58-year-old Canada Post employee with Theft of Mail after a number of packages were stolen between January 8, 2021 and February 11, 2021 along one particular mail route.

An internal investigation by Canada Post investigators began in March and indicated that the thefts were likely committed by an employee who delivered along a route in the Kildonan Meadows area.

Winnipeg Police took over the investigation on April 7, 2021, and arrested the employee at a home in the Mynarski area of Winnipeg. A search warrant executed at the residence uncovered more than 100 stolen items valued at more than $30,000. Police say the items included electronics, makeup and clothing still in the original packages that had been mailed.

Investigators were able to return most of the items to the original owners.

The suspect, who police have not identified, was released on an Appearance Notice.

Investigators are still looking into the thefts and have not rolled out further charges in the future.
