Not everything was fun and games at the Forks on Canada Day for one young Winnipeg man after he was stabbed during the annual celebration.
Just before 7:30 pm and male believed to be in his late teens got into an altercation occurred near the skate park adjacent to the main stage. The male was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in unstable condition.
Police say that they have arrested a 19 year old male suspect who was known to the victim. The suspect also had to be taken to hospital because of an injury sustained in the fight.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
This isn’t the only time a stabbing happened at the forks during the Canada Day celebration. In 2015 a male was also at the skate park when an altercation occurred causing him to be stabbed and taken to hospital in stable condition. Police arrested a lone male suspect shortly after that altercation.
Also in 2015 just outside the Forks three people were attacked and stabbed with a machete in Earl’s Restaurant parking lot on Main Street. That attacked happened just into the early morning hours of July 2, 2017 as Canada Day celebrations were winding down.
On Canada Day in 2014 a 28 year old woman was shot and killed just off Broadway at Donald. Also in 2014 one man was killed and another seriously injured when they were stabbed outside the Via Rail station at Main Street and Broadway.
