Canada Day 2019 | What’s open, What’s closed, What’s happening

There will be lots to do and things you won’t be able to do on Canada Day. Here is a list of what’s open, what’s closed and what’s happening on Monday, July 1, 2019.

What’s happening

At the Forks there will be live music, dancing under the canopy, kids activities throughout the day. Beginning at 7:00 pm the Festival stage will keep you entertained right up until 11:00 pm when the fireworks display is set to cap off the night.


Although there will be lots to do at Assiniboine Park on Canada Day for the second year in a row there will not be any fireworks lighting up the Tuxedo sky. There will be entertainment at the Lyric Theatre between 11:00 am and 5:30 pm including a Citizenship Ceremony where you can help welcome new Canadians. Here is a rundown of the entertainment at the Lyric Theatre in the Park:

  • 11:00 a.m. | Welcome to Treaty 1 & Citizenship Ceremony
  • 12:00 p.m. | Canada Day Anthem and Greetings
  • 12:30 p.m. | Jet Stream – Royal Canadian Air Force Band
  • 1:30 p.m. | Robin Chestnut – Juggler
  • 2:30 p.m. | Folklorama – Rockalypso Caribbean Band
  • 3:30 p.m. | Johnny Cajun
  • 4:30 p.m. | Dust Rhinos

Osborne Village will also be hosting their annual street party featuring two days of festivities on Sunday, June 30 and Canada Day July 1. There will be the main stage featuring amazing local talent, a kids zone, marketplace and extended patios.

Shopping

Kildonan Place | July 1 – CLOSED

St. Vital Mall  | July 1 –  CLOSED

CF Polo Park | July 1 – CLOSED

Grant Park Shopping Centre |July 1- CLOSED

Most grocery stores will also be closed on Canada Day


Liquor Marts

Open on Canada Day with limited hours


Government Offices (Civic, Provincial, Federal)

CLOSED  July 1


Banks & Credit Unions

CLOSED July 1 – ATMs available


Garbage & Recycling

Brady Road 4R depot – 8 am to 8 pm July 1

Pacific 4R – OPEN 10 am to 6 pm July 1

Panet 4R –  OPEN 10 am to 6 pm July 1


Winnipeg Transit

On Canada Day (Monday, July 1st) Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule. A Free Canada Day shuttle linking the Forks and Osborne Village, extra service on Portage to Assiniboine Park, and extra service after the fireworks are planned


Leisure Centres

All leisure centres in the city will be closed on Monday, July 1


Swimming Pools

All indoor city-run swimming pools will be CLOSED on July 1. Outdoor pools will be OPEN on July 1 weather permitting


Wading Pools

Central Park, Dakota Park, Macray Park, Shaughnessy Park, Sturgeon Heights CC, Vimy Ridge Memorial Park, West Kildonan Memorial CC and Westdale will be OPEN July 1 weather permitting.


Spray Pads

All Spray Pads will be OPEN onMonday, July 1 (weather permitting)


Libraries

All civic libraries will be CLOSED on Canada Day


Animal Service Agency

CLOSED July 1


Winnipeg Parking Authority

CLOSED July 1


Golf Courses

All golf courses operated by the city will be OPEN July 1 from dawn until dusk
