It’s that time of year once again when we swap our parkas and snow shovels for shorts and backpacks.
Summer is soon to arrive and Manitobans are chomping at the bit to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors.
On Thursday May 11, 2017 the province announced that it’s campgrounds will be opening effective tomorrow.
“Manitobans love the great outdoors, so the start of camping and fishing season is an exciting time for people who have been waiting to get out and enjoy all the beautiful parks and campgrounds our province has to offer,”Sustainable Development Minister Cathy Cox said. “We have added many new amenities to parks and campgrounds, and we encourage people to explore our great province this season.”
Although the announcement officially starts the camping season in provincial parks and campgrounds they won’t all be open this weekend. Some of the facilities won’t be available until May 19, 2017.
For those who frequent St. Malo campgrounds you will notice significant changes at the park including all showers are now pay showers and more sites have electric hookups.
Additional power hookups have also been installed at Manipogo and Rainbow Beach as well.
If you are a yurt lover then 2017 will have you jumping up and down. Six yurts have been built at Paint Lake and six more will open later this summer at Tulabi Falls.
Next week the province will continue it’s policy of no liquor in all provincial campgrounds, group-use areas, yurts and cabins over the May long weekend.

It is important to note that while the government of Canada is celebrating Canada 150 with free entry to national parks, a provincial park pass is still required when visiting provincial parks.
