Keen-eyed police officers patrolling the North End on August 4, 2022, spotted and subsequently arrested a man wanted on several warrants as the cab he was a passenger in cruised by them around 8:45 p.m. around Manitoba Avenue and Powers Street.
The police unit caught up to the cab near Salter Street and Redwood Avenue, and when they stopped the cab its passenger fled on foot.
The man was taken into custody in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue after a brief foot chase by the officers. Items in the man’s possession included a significant about of methamphetamine, marijuana and Percocet pills.
A backpack left behind in the taxi contained a sawed-off rifle and a BB gun
replica of a Glock handgun.
- Police have charged Sydney Eric Paul, 26, with:
- unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle
- possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
- possession of a weapon
- possession of firearm, restricted/prohibited weapon or ammunition
- contrary to prohibition order (x3)
- possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
- possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, namely methamphetamine and oxycodone; and
- possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing.
He was detained and processed on three warrants: a public interest warrant, a warrant for being unlawfully at large and the warrant for revocation of his parole.
