Cab driver stabbed during McPhillips Street confrontation

A Winnipeg taxi driver is recovering after he was stabbed during a confrontation on Saturday morning, March 25, 2023.

According to Winnipeg Police Service, the cabbie was parked in the 100 block of McPhillips Street when he was approached by a 52-year-old male who demanded a ride. During the incident, the suspect became enraged and threatened to kill the driver before stabbing him. The 36-year-old taxi driver was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

The suspect was located in the 1200 block of Church Street after passersby tipped officers off to his location. The suspect was taken into custody and charged for his alleged involvement with Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Possession of a Weapon.

Police did not release the identity of the accused. He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the criminal code.
