Bell Canada has been given green light by the CRTC to take over the broadcasting distribution rights from MTS.
The distribution rights are what allows a company to sell television services to consumers.
This is the first of several approvals needed by Bell in order for the merger to be finalized.
It is expected that the other approvals will be received before next summer.
Bell and MTS announced the multi-billion dollar merger in May of 2016.
