A vacant three-storey apartment building on Gertie Street is slated to be ripped down after an early morning fire on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, put its structural integrity into question.
Firefighters were called to the first 100 block by Winnipeg Police Services officers who spotted the blaze while on patrol in the area.
When crews arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Fire conditions forced emergency crews to attack the blaze defensively from the exterior. Aerial ladders were used to direct water onto the fire.
The building is considered a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
