After hours of debate, political wrangling, proposed motions and passionate speeches on both sides of the issue city council voted to purchase the land from Manitoba Hydro for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor.
Five councillors voted against the purchase, Russ Wyatt, Jason Schreyer, Shawn Dobson, Scott Gillingham and Janice Lukes with the other eleven in favour.
The $19 million price tag that council has agreed to spend is almost four times higher than the original price they had been quoted for the Hydro right-of-way.
