Winnipeg Police have a 40-year-old male in custody after he allegedly was throwing bricks from the roof of a building near the Health Sciences Centre.
Officers responded to the scene early Monday morning, September 3, 2018, and attempted to speak to the male who was visibly agitated. Police say the man was “exhibiting erratic behaviour” and was throwing bricks at officers from time to time.

For the next seven hours, the standoff between the suspect and police continued as the man continued to scream, throw bricks and rocks at emergency responders and nearby apartment windows.
Police say that it appeared the man was high on methamphetamine during the incident
Just before 3:30 pm WPS Tactical Support Team took the suspect into custody. He was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries then released back to police.
Two vehicles were significantly damaged. Three residential windows were broken and numerous bricks were removed from a chimney during the standoff.
Christopher Robert Baron, a 40-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Assault Peace Officers X6
- Assault with a Weapon X3
- Mischief Under X6
He was detained in custody.
