Selkirk RCMP nap break and enter suspect attempting to flee

Late Thursday night, January 2, 2020, RCMP responded to an in-progress break and enter at a home in the RM of St. Andrews.

Police say that a man backed his vehicle into the garage of the residence and was in the process of loading items into his vehicle when the homeowner confronted him.

After a brief struggle with the property owner, the suspect was able to get away in his vehicle.

Minutes later police received a tip that the suspect was seen at a nearby property and then seen heading towards Winnipeg on Highway 8.

Police began a search and located the suspect vehicle on the highway. A traffic stop was attempted but the suspect refused to stop forcing officers to use a spike belt to disable the vehicle.

A struggle ensued as officers attempted to arrest the male. Both the suspect and an officer suffered injuries. The suspect was treated and released at the scene by paramedics while the officer was taken to hospital where he was treated then released.

25-year-old Conner Todd Sech from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with Breaking and Entering, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Identity Fraud, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Robbery and Resisting Arrest.

He was detained in custody.
