Brandon Police have two suspects in custody after receiving a call about an impaired driver on Wednesday morning, July 24, 2019.
Police say that around 11:00 am they got a report of a vehicle driving into Brandon on the wrong side of Highway 1A towards oncoming traffic. Witnesses suspected the driver was impaired.
Police ran the plates and learned the vehicle had been stolen from Boissevain. Officers also had information that indicated the suspects may also be in possession of firearms.
Within 10 minutes of receiving the initial call police went to the home of one of the suspects and located the stolen pickup truck. Due to the potential threat officers cordoned off 14th Street North while a search warrant was applied for.
Just after 11:30 am a 34-year-old male was placed in custody.
Police entered searched the residence just after 8:00 pm and seized a sawed-off shotgun and the matching piece of barrel that had been removed.
The second suspect, a 22-year-old male was arrested around 10:45 pm at a different location.
Investigators were led to a rural property outside the city and located a sawed-off shotgun and other property believed to have been stolen.
The 34-year-old male faces charges for his alleged involvement of Possess Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possess Weapon while Prohibited, Fail to Comply with Weapons Prohibition Order X 2, Breach of Probation X 2, and Breach of Recognizance.
The 22-year-old male faces charges for his involvement of Possess Stolen Property, and Breach of Undertaking.
Both men were detained in custody
