Provincial Justice Officials asked the Winnipeg Police Service to commence an investigation into the conduct of a Brandon Police Officer. The investigation commenced in January 2015. The complainant in this matter had alleged that he had been assaulted by a Brandon Police Officer he encountered at a local Brandon bar in November 2014.
The Winnipeg Police Professional Standards Unit completed their investigation and forwarded their files to Manitoba Prosecutions in January of this year. Criminal charges were authorized against two Brandon Police Officers on July 11th.
- Sergeant Dallas Lockhart, a 20 year member of the Brandon Police Service, has been charged with one count of Attempt to Obstruct Justice; and one count of Obstruct Police Officer.
- Constable Shane Stephenson, also a 20 year member of the Brandon Police Service, has been charged with one count of Obstruction of Justice.
The charges against these officers were processed in Brandon yesterday. Both officers are scheduled to appear in a Brandon court at a later date.
