Brandon Police Service officers pulled double duty on Friday after responding to a fire on Princess Avenue East.
The officers were the first on the scene around 4:30 am and jumped into action after they saw a large doghouse totally engulfed in flames.
With no sign of the fire department, the officers/firefighters battled the blaze using the fire extinguisher in their patrol unit. Their concern was the fire was large enough to spread to a nearby fence.
Within minutes the fire was out.
It is believed that a heating lamp inside the structure was the source of the fire.
The dog was inside the residence at the time of the fire and was not hurt.
