A Brandon Police Service officer is facing criminal charges following and investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba.
In September 2023, allegations were raised that during an incident an on-duty officer grabbed a man and forced him onto the hood of a police cruiser. The officer also is alleged to have knocked the cell phone out of the hands of a second male. The officer was then alleged to have taken the phone.
The IIU investigated and determined that Criminal Code charges should be laid against the officer.
BPS constable Darwin Raga has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of assault and one count of theft under $5,000.00.
The matter is now before the courts.
