A Brandon police officer is facing charges following an investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) into a September motor vehicle collision that resulted in a man suffering a broken arm.
The incident occurred on September 24, 2023, when Brandon Police Service (BPS) officers responded to a call regarding a man attempting arson. According to the IIU, the man fled the scene, and during the pursuit, a police vehicle collided with him in front of the BPS police headquarters.
The man was subsequently transported to Brandon Regional Hospital, where medical staff determined he had sustained a broken arm.
The IIU, which is responsible for investigating serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, launched an investigation into the collision on September 26, 2023, as previously reported.
Following a thorough investigation, the civilian director of the IIU has determined that charges are warranted against the officer involved. BPS Constable Myran Hamm has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
