A Brandon Police officer was assaulted on Saturday night, January 23, 2021 while controlling traffic at a fire scene.
While firefighters were working to put out a fairly minor mattress fire outside a building in the 600 block of 18th street police noticed two people in the back lane nearby.
As officers tried to identify a male he became belligerent. A second officer went over to assist at which point a female punched the officer. Police arrested both.
A 42-year-old male was released without charges after several hours in custody while the 27-year-old female was charged with assaulting a police officer. She was also released and is schedule to answer to the charges in court at the end of March.
The fire caused minor structural damage to the building.
