Brandon Police nab gas siphoning suspect

Brandon police have one suspect in custody and recovered a stolen vehicle after security officers spotted someone siphoning gas from vehicles on 1st Street N.

Police located the suspect vehicle northbound on Highway 10. Officers ran the Alberta plate on the vehicle and learned that it had been reported stolen.

As officers attempted to stop the vehicle it turned into a field south of Agnew Drive. Police did not pursue but observed the vehicle travel towards Marshall Lane and Matheson Avenue. Other officers were already waiting at that location.

The suspect drove out of one ditch and then into another where it hit a large landscaping bolder and came to a stop. The suspect then fled from the vehicle on foot but could not outrun the officer that pursued him and he was quickly taken into custody.

The 45-year-old suspect had been injured in the collision and was taken to hospital where he was treated. He has been charged for his alleged involvement with Possess Property Obtained by Crime, Flight from Police, Operation of Conveyance while Prohibited, Fail to Comply with Release Order, and Resist Peace Officer.
