Brandon police execute roadside take down of drug trafficker who had fled Rivers Police

A 48-year-old man from Swan River is in custody and facing multiple charges for evading police and trafficking drugs.

It happened late Saturday night, September 23, 2017, and began in Rivers, Manitoba north-west of Brandon. Around 10:30 pm Police in Rivers contacted Brandon Police Service about a grey Buick Allure they had been pursuing that was heading towards Brandon. Rivers police called off their pursuit.

A short time later Brandon officers spotted the suspect vehicle going south on 1st Street. The Buick was driving erratically, passing on the shoulder and eventually collided with a vehicle causing minor damage.

Police followed the suspect but did not activate their emergency lights until the suspect reached the 400 block of Russell Street.

BPS members were able to block the suspect vehicle from moving. Officers ordered the driver out of the vehicle but he refused so force was used to extricate the suspect.

Police searched the car and found a large quantity of methamphetamine.

The driver was arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police and Impaired Driving.

He is being held in custody.
