A 27-year-old Brandon man is in custody and facing charges after an armed incident at a Main Street business on Thursday morning, November 16, 2023.
According to police, the male was distressed while brandishing a knife in the business and at one point attempted to stab an employee. Four of the employees at the business locked themselves in separate rooms before officers arrived.
The male was uncooperative according to officers and had refused to drop the knife from behind a locked front door. While police were attempting to gain entry to the building the suspect began to harm himself. Once the officers made it inside the suspect discharged a fire extinguisher at them. The police deployed both OC spray and a taser in order to arrest the suspect safely.
Once in custody the suspect was taken to hospital for treatment for his self-inflicted injuries.
