    Brandon Police seize 220,000 illegal cigarettes during traffic stop

    Brandon Police have arrested a 47-year-old Calgary, Alberta man after conducting a traffic stop on the TransCanada Highway near 18th Street North.

    According to investigators, the driver admitted to officers that he had a suspended driver’s license. Officers took the man into custody. In the back of the pickup truck the suspect was driving were a number of sealed boxes full of illegal cigarettes.

     

    • Nearly a 1/2 million illegal cigarettes seized by police
    • 11 people and four businesses caught with illegal tobacco products

     

    Police say that none of the 220,000 cigarettes that were seized was marked for tax purposes.

    The suspect was detained. Officers also seized his vehicle during the incident.
