Brandon Correctional Centre inmate stabbed

A 21-year-old inmate at Brandon Correctional Centre is facing charges after he allegedly stabbed another inmate inside the institution.

Brandon Police say that they were called to the provincial jail just after 9:30 am on Monday, April 29, 2019, after an inmate was stabbed with a homemade “edged weapon”.

The victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect, Therae Racette-Bealieu, was charged with Assault with a Weapon, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose as well as Breach of Probation for his alleged involvement.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, investigators added additional charges of Aggravated Assault and Attempted Murder after reviewing the incident.

Racette-Beaulieu was recently sentenced to 18 years in prison after admitting to the shooting of RCMP Cpl. Graeme Kingdon on Aug. 29, 2018 near Onanole, Manitoba.
