A nine-year-old boy needed medical attention after being mauled by a coyote on Saturday evening, June 24, 2023.
Winnipeg Police Service say that around 6:50 pm a 15-year-old female and her brother were walking in the Sunny Morning Road area when they spotted a coyote. As the coyote began running towards them they fled but the coyote caught up to the boy and he was mauled. A resident nearby chased the animal away. The boy was taken to hospital with multiple injuries.
Winnipeg Police along with provincial conservation officers are investigating the incident.
Police remind residents that if they encounter a coyote they should become large and loud to help scare it off. Raise a jacket or another piece of clothing above your head to appear larger and shout. A safety whistle is another option for creating noise.
