On Friday, October 15, 2021, the province of Manitoba announced that they will be spending more than $64 million for the construction of a new building and an addition to the existing building on the Boundary Trails Health Centre campus.
We are building a health-care system that offers rural communities more services closer to home supporting specialized services at larger facilities like Boundary Trails, which can reduce the need for many residents to travel to Winnipeg for their care,” said Health and Seniors Care Minister Audrey Gordon.
The project will add acute care beds to the facility as well as provide more space for patient care programs. The province says that it may include services like ambulatory care, cancer services, home care, education services, public health, health information services and administration.
Gordon said “This investment will ensure Boundary Trails can continue to support health services not only for the growing communities of Winkler and Morden well into the future, but also those of many other communities in the Southern Health–Santé Sud region.”
The project will happen in two phase with the first being the construction of the new community services building. Once that is up and running then a two-storey addition will be added which will be home to 24 acute care beds and an enhanced nursery.
Construction on the new building is expected to begin in summer 2022.
