Bomb Unit detonates volatile substance at University of Manitoba

Winnipeg Police Service Bomb Unit along with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Hazardous Materials unit was called to the Fort Garry campus of the University of Manitoba on Friday morning, June 30, 2023.

According to police, emergency services were at the Parker building to help university staff to safely dispose of an unnamed volatile substance.

The substance was moved to a nearby outside location and successfully destroyed through controlled detonation.

Police had cordoned off a large area at the campus out of an abundance of caution a evacuated those nearby.

By 4;30 pm the incident was over and emergency crews left the campus.
