Body of man who fell through the ice on the Winnipeg River recovered

On Monday, March 22, 2021, RCMP from Powerview reported that the body of a 42-year-old male who fell through the ice on the Winnipeg River while driving an ATV has been recovered.

Early Thursday morning on March 18 police were called to the area near Penelope Close in the RM of Alexander and could hear calls for help from a man clinging to the ice.

As police and a volunteer firefighter walked onto the ice in an effort to save the man he began to struggle and went under the surface. He did not resurface.

On Saturday, March 20 the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART) and family members took to the river in an effort to recover the body the victim. Their efforts were successful and they were able to retrieve the drowned man.
