RCMP are investigating the presumed drowning of a 4-year-old male in the community of St. Theresa Point First Nation, about 465 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
The child was last seen just after 4:30 pm on Thursday, October 11, 2018, close to the family home in the first nation community.
First nation Safety Officers were told about the missing child around 11:00 pm and began a search with the help of community members.
Just before midnight the child’s body was found in the lake by searchers and taken to the nursing station where the boy was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed to confirm the cause of death.
RCMP will continue to investigate.
