Winnipeg Police have said that on Friday, August 18, 2017, they recovered a body from the Red River in the area that a male youth was seen struggling as he attempted to cross the river.
Police would not confirm if it was the unnamed 16-year-old male they had been searching the waterway for.
On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, police were called to an area on the river just north of the Redwood Bridge just after 9:00 pm.

Witnesses on the shore told officers that a male youth had attempted to cross the river but disappeared after getting about halfway across.
Police have been on the river searching since and on Friday officers were told that a citizen in the area spotted a possible body floating in the river.
The WPS River Patrol and the Fire Departments water rescue located the body near St. John’s Park.
An autopsy will be conducted by the medical examiner before police can confirm the identity of the body.

On Saturday, August 19, 2017, Winnipeg Police confirmed that the body recovered was that of the missing youth
Although police have not released the name of the victim the family has contacted media and have identified him as Jeremy Malish David.
