Manitoba RCMP say that there are about 50 vehicles taking part in the blockade near Emerson, Manitoba on Friday, February 11, 2022. Except for emergency vehicles and some agricultural transports no other vehicles are able to get past the protest.
RCMP say that so far no tickets have been issued and no arrests have been made.
“The RCMP is on scene and will remain on scene until the situation at the border is resolved. We will continue to use discretion to guide our response to this evolving situation. Let me stress that proper use of police discretion should not be confused with lack of enforcement. We always need to assess the situation at ground level and that may require us to wait for a lower-risk opportunity to do enforcement rather than inflame the situation,” said Chief Superintendent Rob Hill, Officer in Charge of Criminal Operations for the Manitoba RCMP.
Manitoba RCMP said that they are aware of other demonstrations planned in parts of the province that will in all likelihood cause delays. Protests are expected for Deacon’s Corner, along the Perimeter Highway, on Highway 3 near Morden and in the Selkirk area.
Meanwhile, Winnipeg Police say that they have been in discussions with organizers of planned protests set for the weekend including a counter-protest to the Freedom convoy movement scheduled for the legislature grounds
Additional officers will be deployed in an effort to keep the peace.
