Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for Winnipeg and most of southern Manitoba.
The national forecaster says that a fast moving low pressure system will bring 2-5 cm of snow to the region Thursday night along with winds gusting up to 60 km/hr.
The conditions will get worse into Friday morning as winds will increase up to 80 km/hr bringing in blizzard conditions. Poor visibility and localized whiteout conditions are expected throughout the morning into Friday afternoon.
Travel is not recommended outside the city as visibilities can be reduced to zero in heavy and blowing snow.
Conditions are expected to begin improving in the late afternoon and evening.
