Bermax Caffe target of anti-semitic hate crime

Winnipeg Police are investigating a robbery and serious hate crime after an incident at Bermax Caffe on Corydon Avenue Thursday night, April 18, 2019.

Emergency crews were called to the coffee shop around 10:45 pm and found an adult female had been assaulted. She was taken to hospital in stable condition, treated and released.

Police say that it appears the cafe was the target of robbery however the entire restaurant had been seriously vandalized and anti-Semitic graffiti had been spray painted on a wall. Tables were flipped over, dishes smashed and bottles lay on the floor.

There have been three other incidents involving graffiti at Bermax over the past five months but this is the first time that the incident turned violent said Winnipeg Police Public Information Officer Rob Carver.

Mayor Brian Bowman took to social media to condemn the hate crime and show support to police in the investigation
