RCMP in Berens River, about 273 kilometres north of Winnipeg, are investigating the death of a 21-year-old Bloodvein woman on New Year’s day.
Police say that around 2:15 am on January 1, 2019, an SUV struck the female who was walking with a group of people on the Main Road in the community. The victim died from her injuries at the scene.
The 36-year-old driver from Berens River stopped then drove directly to the RCMP depot and reported the incident.
David Ernest George, 36, has been charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death for his alleged involvement.
Investigators say that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision.
