Winnipeg police are asking the public to help find a man who has been robbing people in their cars using some kind of pepper spray in the Main Street area at both Higgins and Sutherland.
Around 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, October 23, 2021, a woman parked near Main and Sutherland was approached by a man asking her for a cigarette. She looked down to get him one, and when she looked up, he sprayed her in the face with something, and ran off.
A few minutes later at Higgins and Main, he approached the passenger side of a vehicle stopped for the light, reached in through the partially opened window and grabbed a purse sitting on the seat. As the female driver tried to close the window, he sprayed her in the face and again ran away.
Police investigating the incidents are sharing surveillance video from the area they believe shows the suspect swaggering down the street. The suspect is described as an adult male with arm and upper body tattoos; he was wearing a baseball cap and carrying a backpack.
