Giesbrecht denied bail as she appeals conviction of concealing remains in storage locker

Court of Appeal Justice Michel Monnin has denied bail for Andrea Giesbrecht while she awaits an appeal of her 2017 conviction.

Giesbrecht was sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison for concealing the remains of six infants in a storage locker.

In delivering his decision Monnin said he would consider releasing Giesbrecht into a controlled setting but the Elizabeth Fry Society of Manitoba, where she had lived prior to her conviction will not allow her to stay there because they don’t house federally-sentenced prisoners.

Giesbrecht’s lawyer, Greg Brodsky said they are looking into other options before they make another bail application.
